Impregnation & Coating
Exwold provides contract processing services for both impregnation and surface coating.
Impregnation Services
This process involves absorbing liquids into porous carriers. We work with granule-type carriers, such as Sepiolite, or powder-type carriers like precipitated silica.
Impregnation is particularly effective for retaining a free-flowing solid product even when spraying high concentrations of liquid. It also allows low melting solids to be converted into water-dispersible granules through absorption into precipitated silica. These changes result in a product that is safer to handle and more efficient to transport compared to liquid equivalents.
Surface Coating Technology
We coat inert carriers, such as limestone or sand, by spraying fine powders or liquids onto the surface.
Our technology supports both single-layer and multi-layer applications. Multi-layer coating is useful for the agrochemical and micronutrient sectors, where different layers can be used to control the release rate of the active material.

Granule Production by Extrusion
Exwold provides contract formulation and processing for extruded granules using radial extrusion technology. While this service is centred on the crop protection market, the technology is also applicable to detergents and speciality sectors, such as coatings and plastics.
Agrochemical Applications
Radial extrusion is a standard process within the global agrochemical industry for the production of Water Dispersible Granules (WDGs). We use this method to process pesticides, including herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and plant growth regulators (PGRs).
To support this sector, Exwold operates a dedicated facility specifically for the production of high-active herbicide granules. This segregation ensures product integrity and safety.

Case Studies
Surface Coating Blending
A multinational company required a cost-effective 2mm granule of a waxy product used as surface coating additive .
The product had not been previously extruded. The material was supplied as a waxy solid block with a melting point below 100 ºC.
The material also required careful handling as it was corrosive and a significant aim was to reduce contact hazards.
Surface Coating Additive Milling
Exwold was approached by a leading chemical company to process a range of automotive surface coating additives.
The surface coating additive is produced as a molten solid in drums. Once cooled it forms a waxy, solid mass. The material has a low melting point <50ºC. The client required this in physical form to charge into coating with a specific particle size distribution to ensure dispersion.
Coating Processing
A powder coating manufacturer contacted us to establish whether a process could be established to recycle fines (the fine powder generated and removed during powder coating manufacture).
The company was sending around 10-25mt of fines to landfill each year and wanted to reduce the environmental and financial impact. The fines ranged in PSD but were typically 150 microns.
