Milling with Exwold for Maximum Performance
Exwold offers specialised contract size reduction and particle size reduction services for a wide array of chemical and industrial solids. Through our extensive suite of milling capabilities, we can transform raw materials into precisely defined powder grades, handling everything from kibbling large lumps to achieving sub-10 micron particle sizes.
Contract Size Reduction Services

At Exwold we have been kibbling, milling and micronising solids, granules and powders for decades and have built a reputation for quality and a collaborative approach to our clients. Always looking to develop new and innovative solutions for existing and potential clients, we have helped our clients to achieve particle sizes suitable for wide ranging applications such as Plastic Additives, Water Treatment, Powder Catalysts, Crop Protection and Chemical Intermediates. Contract Kibbling & Crushing
Exwold provides contract kibbling and crushing services designed to convert difficult materials into manageable feed sources. Over time, hygroscopic or sensitive powders can become solid blocks during storage. We offer a solution to reclaim this stock.
Process Description
Kibbling is a particle size reduction technique, often referred to as crushing, de-compaction, or granulating.
The process utilises cheese-grater type screens or rotating knives to produce a coarse product. Typically, this results in particle diameters ranging between 3mm and 25mm. We can tailor this process to meet your specific particle size specifications and packaging requirements.
When is Kibbling Required?
This service is the ideal solution for materials that have deteriorated in storage or transport, specifically products that are:
-
Fused: Materials that have chemically or physically bonded.
-
Compacted: Powders that have become dense blocks due to pressure or settling.
-
Hardened: Products that have set over time.
By reworking these materials, we return them to a usable, free-flowing state, saving you the cost of disposal and lost inventory.

Precision Milling Solutions

At Exwold, we mill powders to optimize their physical properties, ensuring they meet the exacting standards of our customers' diverse applications. By reducing particle size, we achieve three critical technical objectives:
-
Increased Surface Area: Accelerates chemical reaction rates, improves dissolution speeds, and ensures faster, more efficient drying.
-
Superior Flow & Mixing: Creating uniform particle sizes eliminates segregation and improves material flow for downstream processing.
-
Consistent Quality: Precise control over particle size distribution (PSD) ensures repeatable product performance and high-quality results in every batch.
Our Milling Capabilities
We operate a versatile range of milling technologies, allowing us to deliver precise particle size distributions across a wide spectrum—from coarse granules to ultra-fine powders.
| Technology | Typical Particle Size Range | Best For... |
| Granulator | 0.5 mm – 1 mm | Targeted coarse milling for granular materials. |
| Hammer Mill | Down to 100 µm | Robust reduction with a finer "bottom cut" than standard granulation. |
| Cone Mill | Typically 1000 µm (1 mm) | Gentle milling where size is controlled by screen selection and throughput. |
| Universal Pin Mill | 600 µm – 50 µm | Versatile processing; size is highly dependent on screen size and feed rates. |
| Air Classifier Mill (ACM) | 500 µm – 25 µm | Integrated particle size control for precise, narrow distributions. |
| Air Jet Mill | 100 µm – 3 µm | Our finest milling technology for ultra-fine particle size requirements. |
Expertise That Delivers
Choosing the right milling technology is dependent on your specific material characteristics and target PSD. Exwold’s technical team works closely with you to select the optimal equipment to ensure your product performs exactly as intended. Contact our team.
