Impregnation & Coating
With more than 30 years of heritage in extrusion technology, Exwold operates four dedicated manufacturing sites across the UK, specifically designed for contract processing. We operate as a pure service partner; as we do not manufacture our own brands, our focus is entirely on collaborating with clients to understand their functional requirements and engineer bespoke solutions.
Our capabilities include the production of precision-extruded granules ranging from 0.6mm to 2mm, with pre-mixes prepared to your exact specifications. Furthermore, the Exwold portfolio provides a comprehensive suite of granulation technologies, including roll compaction, to ensure the optimal delivery of your product.

Milling Options
Exwold offers a comprehensive suite of milling technologies designed to handle diverse material types and meet exacting particle size specifications. Our facilities enable seamless, multi-stage processing on a single site, supported by pre- and post-mill blending and sieving to ensure a "one-stop" supply chain solution.
Our core milling capabilities include:
-
Knife Milling: Ideal for producing coarse granules between 3mm and 25mm. This technology is frequently utilised to reduce solid or waxy materials into more manageable sizes. With an annual capacity exceeding 2,000 tonnes, we offer the flexibility to handle large-scale requirements alongside smaller campaigns from 1,000kg upwards.
-
Turbo Milling: For finer applications, our turbo mills achieve significant size reduction down to <75 microns. Every batch is overseen by our experienced Quality Control team to ensure the final product aligns perfectly with your specific technical requirements.
By integrating milling with our bespoke packing services, we provide a streamlined, end-to-end manufacturing partner for your most challenging formulations.

Blending Solutions
Blending and mixing are fundamental to operations across all five Exwold sites. Our expertise covers a broad spectrum of complexity, from simple two-component mixtures to highly intricate formulations involving multiple ingredients and low-level pre-mixes.
To ensure total consistency, the majority of our blending units are equipped with liquid addition spray systems, allowing us to produce perfectly homogeneous blends even when incorporating solutions.
Our Blending Equipment Portfolio
-
Ribbon Blenders: A versatile range with capacities from 1,000L to 10,000L.
-
Drum Blenders: Offering a 2,000L capacity for efficient batch mixing.
-
High-Shear Lödige Mixers: Ideal for more intensive mixing requirements and demanding formulations.
Integrated Supply Chain at Brenda Road
At our Brenda Road facility, we often combine blending with our other core technologies to provide a seamless manufacturing process. This integrated approach allows us to link blending directly with:
-
Milling & Sieving
-
Roll Compaction
-
Final Packing
By consolidating these stages on a single site, we reduce transit risks and simplify your supply chain.

Frequently Asked
Questions
Can you perform batch processing?
Exwold specialises in batch processing. Batch sizes vary from a few hundred kilograms to tens of tonnes. We also have continuous processing available with extrusion processes.
Do you sell your own products?
No. Exwold specialises in contract manufacture and in order to avoid any conflicts of interest with our clients, we have chosen to specialise only in contract processing and do not offer our own products.
Can you carry out multi-stage processing?
Yes our expertise and flexible plants allow us to combine processing technologies, for example, we regularly combine blending with our granulation capabilities.
What is your minimum order quantity for processing?
Exwold typically works in the 10 to 1000 tonnes range for clients but processes can be evaluated and adapted on a case by case basis depending on process requirements.
Our pilot facility allows us to produce trial quantities and the High Active Herbicide facility is designed to produce in volumes of 100Kgs upwards.
Can we visit Exwold to perform an audit?
We welcome all our clients to our sites so they can perform audits. We have accreditation to ISO 9001/14001/45001 standards and are looking for continuous improvements in our quality systems, so encourage all customer feedback.
Can you process foodstuffs and pharmaceutical products?
Our expertise is in the speciality chemical and agrochemical markets and as a consequence. Exwold does not currently offer services to the food or pharmaceutical markets.
Can you purchase raw materials for clients as well as manufacture?
Typically our customers prefer to source their own materials but Exwold is willing and able to source raw materials when required.
Our purchasing department can offer expert assistance in sourcing raw materials and packing requirements.
Can you do pre-production trials?
Yes. Our technical department is fully trained to perform and support pre-production trials. We often encourage trials before production so that we can evaluate any technical challenges and arrive at an accurate costing.
The technical development centre is well equipped to enable us to test all the technologies we have at scale.
Can you process solvents?
We tend to work mostly in aqueous phase, but can evaluate opportunities with solvents which have a flash point of >60°.
What quality, environmental and health and safety systems do you operate?
Exwold is certified to the ISO 9001/14001 standards.
In 2019 Exwold gained ISO 45001.
Where are you based?
We have five manufacturing sites which are all based in the North East of England near the town of Hartlepool.
This area has exceptional transport links to the rest of the UK and Europe.
Would you be prepared to buy capital equipment to meet a client’s processing needs?
At Exwold we regularly work with customers in this way and our engineering team can offer in-house expertise in plant modifications and design.
With our clients we have jointly invested over £4 million in plant and equipment.
Should we have concerns regarding contamination?
This is of critical importance to Exwold and it is the most asked question by our clients.
We have sophisticated clean-down procedures for every piece of processing plant and all our plants are accredited with ISO 9001/14001 status.
We operate a plant dedicated to high active herbicides and have warehousing and manufacturing separation between herbicides and insecticides.
Products are tested by a third party analytical company to detect residual impurities to low ppm levels.
Is Exwold sustainable?
Yes. Sustainability is a core focus at Exwold. We continuously invest in renewable energy, such as the solar panels at our Tofts Farm plant, and are actively installing new equipment across all sites to reduce plastic waste and environmental impact.
What type of packing does Exwold provide?
Exwold offers packing as an added value to bulk manufacture. We often hold the bulk in stock providing the ultimate flexibility to pack off as required.
We can pack small bottles for high active herbicides (100-1000g).
We are used to handling multiple packing SKUs for products and we pack from 1kg to 1000kgs in a variety of packaging types, including jerricans, paper and foil bags, kegs, FIBCs and bottles.
Can you provide supply product with 2D matrix labelling?
Yes. We have been investing in this capability following the regulatory requirement to include this when supplying crop protection products to countries such as France and Turkey.
How much will you charge me?
We look to offer competitive rates and, since every processing job is bespoke, we evaluate every opportunity on a case by case basis.
We are able to provide indicative prices at early stages of discussion to ensure project viability.
I know I want a granule made but not sure of how, can you help me?
Our technical team can help to determine which technology is best using their expert granulation knowledge and by asking a few simple questions such as granule size, specific physical properties required and application. From this they will suggest the best options to fulfil your needs.
The Technical Development centre can be used to assess whether this technology produces your desired granule and can support customer trials.
